• What is the Equestrian Club?
The UFEC is part of the University of Florida RecSports Clubs. The Club is dedicated to promoting good horsemanship and sportsmanship. All members share a love of horses and being involved in the UF community. We participate in clinics, community service, fundraising, and many competitions throughout the year.  Our teams compete under IHSA, USEA, and IDA.

  • How do I join the UFEC?
In order to be a member of the UFEC, you must be a current UF student. To get more information on joining, please reach out to any of our officers or pop into one of our meetings (announced bimonthly on our social media platforms). Additionally, there are no fees to join and be an active member of our club.

  • How do I join a team? 
The UFEC has 4 teams: Dressage, Eventing, Hunt Seat, and Western. If you are interested in joining any of our teams, you are encouraged to reach out to the captain or co-captain of the team you are interested in to get more information on getting started. No previous horse experience is required 

  • Are there tryouts? 
We do not host tryouts. We have evaluation periods in the beginning of each semester to give the coaches an opportunity to assess a team member's riding level. The coaches will usually ask about a member's past showing and riding experience, which is part of determining what class level in each governing body's show you are best suited to ride in. 

  • Do I have to train with a team coach?
Yes, riders must train with the team coaches in order to be eligible to show.

  • Do I have to own my own horse?
No, you do not need to own a horse to participate in lessons and shows!

  • Do I need to have experience with horses to be a member?
No horse experience is required to join the UFEC. We welcome members of all experience levels and backgrounds.

  • Does the UFEC offer any type of scholarships?
No, we are a club sport and therefore do not have the ability to offer members scholarships. Many of our governing bodies (IHSA, IDA, USEA) have external opportunities for scholarships for active horsemen. 

  • How can I help support the UFEC and its teams?
 The UFEC is extremely grateful for any forms of support that can be offered to our club. We have sponsorship packets that disclose how monetary donations can be made for each team, please reach out to the captains of the intended team for more information.
